Fundraising

Our Grand Priories & Commanderies have been involved in the initiation, management and support of many hundreds of fund-raising and charity events.   These include art exhibitions, the auction and sale of donated items, music and other cultural events.

We have been fortunate to have been supported by many local and national businesses. We are pleased to organise the collection of unwanted goods or near ‘sell by date’ items for distribution to those in most need.

We have highlighted a selection our fund-raising and charity events from our country locations.

Commandery of Cyprus – Cyprus Mosaics Christian Art Workshop, Non Profit Venture, Tsada, Paphos

The art workshop is based adjacent to the Cyprus Commandery location, a focal point of the Commandery’s evolving Christian Sanctuary & Retreat. This is a non-profit venture with all proceeds going towards refugee and community support activities.

The art workshop is run and managed by Mary Chojnowski, a renowned mosaic artist, community artist and painter of icons in Cyprus. Mary’s work has featured in many solo and group art exhibitions across the Island and she has completed numerous private and public commissions.

Through art, Mary has worked tirelessly over the years to build strong relationships within the Cyprus community. This has happily resulted in bringing work from the Orthodox church, local schools, local galleries, artists and public events venues.

Mary’s work is approved by the Catholic, Orthodox and Maronite Churches for both the creation and renovation of Christian mosaics, murals and icons. She has completed commissions in the UK and Cyprus within churches, schools, special needs centers, village squares, as well as many private commissions.

Work is often shared out with helpers from the refugee community. “It is my aim to manage large scale projects with a team of women who can help me with the time-consuming and practical work of mosaic and large scale mural art. I also welcome help from volunteers who want to support the community and cooperative aspect of my work”.

Mary also offers mosaic learning workshops to schools which is always very popular and spreads the ethos of community spirit, the importance of shared experience and support for our neighbors.

Mary welcomes inquiries for art commissions be they small or large and in any mediums.  She hopes to provide more consistent work opportunities for her refugee helpers.
